There are basically three types of Oregon Health Insurance available in the market today. There are a number of Plans which are hybrids of the following examples:

1) Traditional Indemnity Policies:

This is "fee for service insurance". You select your Doctor, Hospital, Pharmacy etc..... and the plan will pay the qualified expenses. There are no lists of Doctors, no referral to get and no prior authorization requirements. You and your Doctor plan your treatment. Most of these plans recognize "Alternative Practitioners of the Healing Arts". This type of plan normally has a deductible which must be met prior to having services paid by a company. There are some plans which offer Doctors Office co-payments and Prescription co-payments prior to the deductible being meet.

2) Health Maintenance Organization Policies (HMO):

This is managed care. You have a primary care physician who is responsible for your needs. You have a co-payment for your office call. If there is a medical need which he can not treat you for, he will have to refer you to a specialist to treat you. You must get a referral to see a physician other than your primary care Doctor. There are various options for prescriptions on these plans.

3) Preferred Provider Organization Policies (PPO):

This is similar to Traditional Insurance as long as you use the list of Providers that you have been sent by the Insurance Company. Some plans offer options to have a co-payment for Doctors visits and Prescriptions added to the main policy.
